Combined with the hands-free clip attached to any backpack and keeps you comfortable during hot sunny days or keeps you dry in rainy weather throughout the hike. It extends far enough back that it mostly protects your pack as well.

Umbrella has a UV protection factor of 50+, which can help you to reduce the amount of sunscreen you need to apply during the day, so you could carry less sunscreen and lighten your pack.
